Description:
Extend Runway - 06/24


  • This grant will provide federal funding for the Virginia Highlands Airport associated with Abingdon, Virginia. The local point of contact is Mr. Mickey Hines, Manager. Mr. Mickey Hines may be reached at (276) 628-2909.
  • This project will construct a 1,029 foot runway extension to allow Runway 06/24 to meet the operational needs of the airport.
  • This grant will provide funding for construction phase 1 of 4. This phase of the project is for drainage improvements necessary to adequately handle storm water runoff associated with the extension of Runway 06/24.
  • Virginia Highlands Airport is a general aviation airport, designated as regional, as defined in the FAA's National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS) report.
  • Following this grant announcement, FAA will notify the sponsor of the allocation. A grant offer will be issued subsequently for this grant as finally formulated.
